Having created a CHAI group, we recommend that you split your volunteers up into Teams and then assign clients to the most appropriate Team. You have the flexibility to define the characteristics of a Team, matching the expertise/location/experience of your volunteers with the needs of your clients.
We have given 3 examples below to give you a taste of the possibilities. Don’t forget, volunteers and clients can be assigned to more than one Team if appropriate. You can also simply create a single Team if that is more suitable for your group.
Examples
Example 1: A Mutual Aid Group
The Mutual Aid volunteer group has 3 different Teams that represent volunteers covering 3 different local areas in the community.
Clients are assigned to a given Team based on where they live.
Station Road
Covering from the station as far as the A55 Jn.Union Street
Covering the town centre and anywhere inside the ring road.Barton in the Beans
Including Main Street as far as Carlton Rd.
Example 2: A Peer Support Volunteer Group
The local volunteer group (peer supporters) decided to create Teams based on skills and knowledge that their volunteers have to offer.
Clients are assigned to these Teams based on matching them with volunteers best placed to support their specific needs. This includes offering peer support where clients with a given condition are matched to volunteers living with the same condition and who are able to provide support through shared experiences.
Dementia Team
Experienced in working with people who have dementia.Diabetes Team
Shared experience of living with diabetes.Restricted Mobility Team
Volunteers well placed to assist those who have restricted mobilityBefriender Team
Volunteers with more free time and who are happy to perform longer and frequent visits to those feeling isolated from their community and feel lonely.
Example 3: A Community Group
The local community volunteer and good turns group split their group into Teams based on the type of support being offered. Later they will add locations like Example 1 and peer support like Example 2.
Driver Support Team
Transport for appointments and shopping trips.Phone Support Team
Dedicated telephone support team. Always someone on call.-
Door Step Team
Home visits (subject to local restrictions).
Data Protection
Splitting your group into Teams also helps with data protection, with client records only shared with those directly involved in supporting each client (i.e. within a Team).
How to create Teams within your Group
CHAI Community Teams are initially created by the Group Manager when they create their Group. If you are a Manager, you can create your Group by clicking the link below and following the simple step by step wizard. Use the examples in the section above to help identify the most appropriate Teams for your Group.
If you already have a CHAI Community Group, the Group Manager can add Teams within the User Management App.
Managing your Teams
Teams are managed by the Group Manager within the User Management App.
This is where the list of volunteers (users) and list of clients for a given Team can be altered. New Teams can also be added to your Group here.
